Chris Pine: No, Harry Styles didn’t spit on me

It might be the greatest debate in movie premiere history. Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine at the Venice Film Festival premiere of Don’t Worry Darling? According to Pine’s representatives: No. No he did not.

But let’s go to the tape and break it down spit by spit–uh, we mean bit by bit. In the clip, actor Chris Pine is applauding as co-star Harry Styles moves into frame. As Styles turns to sit, he appears to purse his lips. Pine looks where the alleged spit goes–towards his lap–and pauses applauding. He slightly shakes his head, almost in a disbelieving manner, smiles and glances at Styles, who doesn’t seem to make eye contact. The clip, embedded below, ends at this point.

According to Chris Pine’s rep: “This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation…Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine…There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Harry Style’s alleged spitting on Chris Pine is just the latest dustup surrounding Don’t Worry Darling. As reported previously, the spat between director Olivia Wilde and Shia LaBeouf relates to the debate over whether LaBeouf was fired or not (he says he quit). Meanwhile, star Florence Pugh has apparently been dodging her director, refusing to partake in the traditional press conference.

Don’t Worry Darling’s official plot: “A 1950s housewife living with her husband in a utopian experimental community begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets.”

Don’t Worry Darling hits theaters later this month on September 23.

So, what do you think? Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine at the premiere?
