Christian Bale is on the path to redemption in Hostiles trailer

"I've killed everything that's walked or crawled. If you do it enough, you get used to it."

I'm always in the mood for a good western, and Scott Cooper's HOSTILES is looking as though it will be a particularly brutal and grim example of the genre. Starring Christian Bale as Joseph J. Blocker, HOSTILES finds the legendary Army Captain reluctantly agreeing to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back home to their tribal lands. Along the way they encounter Rosalie Quaid (Rosamund Pike), a young window whose family has been murdered. Check out the gorgeous trailer for Scott Cooper's HOSTILES above!

Our own Chris Bumbray caught the film when it screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and had plenty of praise for the revisionist western in his review, particularly when it came to Christian Bale's performance. "Bale’s evolution is incredible. His performance truly does rank with his best, with the performance subtle and quiet, but also action driven, with Cooper staging some really impressive shoot-outs and pursuits. [Rosamund[ Pike, [Wes] Studi and especially [Rory] Cochrane are his equals here, with each of them contributing tremendous, layered performances."

The official synopsis for HOSTILES:

Set in 1892, Hostiles tells the story of a legendary Army Captain (Christian Bale) who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back home to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from New Mexico to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Rosamund Pike) whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche, and vicious outliers they encounter along the way.

HOSTILES will hit theaters on December 22, 2017.
