Christian Bale to reunite with his Machinist director Brad Anderson for Concrete Island?

It was back in 2004 when filmmaker Brad Anderson (VANISHING ON 7TH STREET, SESSION 9) directed a completely emaciated Christian Bale to much acclaim amongst genre fans in THE MACHINIST. Now, seven years later, it seems that the writer-director and Caped Crusader are hoping to re-team once again in a film called CONCRETE ISLAND, an adaptation of the novel by J.G. Ballard.

Anderson himself talked a bit about the film in an interview with Shock Till You Drop:

“The best way to describe it is it’s like an urban Robinson Crusoe story – a guy crashes a car into a highway interchange and is marooned in this weedy lot, injured, and can’t escape and he’s basically trying to survive in the middle of the big urban Metropolis.”

He continued, revealing Bale’s potential involvement:

“It’s sort of a crazy, cool Ballard-esque type story, but Christian’s on board to do that when we can fit it into his schedule, of course.”

That schedule, of course, includes THE DARK KNIGHT RISES which is set to begin shooting in May, as well as the currently filming 13 FLOWERS OF NANJING (formerly NANJING HEROES) for Chinese director Zhang Yimou (HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS). Should CONCRETE ISLAND move ahead and actually be Bale’s next film, it would certainly be after RISES is complete.

Anderson’s latest dark tale VANISHING ON 7TH STREET is already available On Demand and will see a limited release next week, February 18th.
