Christian Pasquariello’s SUM1, starring Iwan Rheon, filming next month

Variety is reporting that Munich-based sales company Global Screen has struck a first-look and co-development deal with Christian Alvart’s Berlin-based independent production company Syrreal Entertainment, and the collaboration will start with Christian Pasquariello's (KILL YOUR DARLING) sci-fi thriller SUM1.

Iwan Rheon (“Game of Thrones”,“Misfits") will be starring in the lead role as a young soldier placed on a desolate watchtower high above a forest on a 100-day assignment to defend the outpost against eerie, powerful alien creatures in a strange world. Sounds intriguing, right? Check out this synopsis:

A dark and desolate forest. Somewhere. Sometime. The NONESUCH – eerie, overpowering alien creatures – have forced humanity into hiding in a vast system of underground bunkers. The soldier SUM1 is sent to the surface for one of the 100-day shifts in a watchtower. Isolation and paranoia begin to eat away the young soldier’s mind. If he is to make it out alive, he must find out weather he is manipulated and pushed into madness. Or are the NONESUCH truly hiding in the dark forest, waiting to strike any moment?

SUM1 is produced by Alvart (CASE 39, PANDORUM), Sigi Kamml (“1 1⁄2 Brothers,” “Banklady”) and Susa Kusche (“Run Boy Run,” “Shahada”). Director of photography is Hagen Bogdanski (THE LIVES OF OTHERS).

Principal photography is starting on February 9. Global Screen will start selling the title at the European Film Market in Berlin.
