Christina Ricci, Rachel Brosnahan to star in Sam Raimi’s horror anthology

Sam Raimi, the filmmaker behind such horror hits as THE EVIL DEAD and DRAG ME TO HELL, has unveiled one hell of an impressive cast for his horror anthology 50 STATES OF FRIGHT. Set to be released on the forthcoming Jefferey Katzenberg-founded mobile streaming platform Quibi, the series shares terrifying tales based on urban legends from all across the U.S. Newly-announced members of the cast include Christina Ricci (BLACK SNAKE MOAN, THE ADDAMS FAMILY) and Rachel Brosnahan (THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL). For the show, Brosnahan will join Travis Fimmel (VIKINGS) and John Marshall Jones (CON AIR, IN THE CUT) for the anthology's "The Golden Arm" episode, while Ricci will star alongside Jacob Batalon (SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME) for a spooky story titled "Red Rum."

Other stars set to appear in the Raimi-produced series are Ming-Na Wen (AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.), Taissa Farmiga of AMERICAN HORROR STORY fame, Asa Butterfield (HUGO, SEX EDUCATION) and Ron Livingston (OFFICE SPACE, THE CONJURING).

Naturally, the show will feature a rotating group of writers and directors, including Sam Raimi, who as you know is no stranger to conjuring chilling tales. Also on deck to contribute are A QUIET PLACE co-writers Bryan Woods and Scott Beck, who will write and direct an episode based on Iowan folklore.

"The driving force for us as a studio is to foster the careers of emerging talent by marrying them with proven innovators,” said Gunpowder & Sky CEO Van Toffler. “With 50 States of Fright we sought out a diverse group of breakthrough performers and fearless horror visionaries and partnered them with Sam Raimi to oversee the creative process. This winning formula ensures we’ll get a s-load of scares."

Quibi has yet to be unleashed upon the masses, though the mobile streaming service has already announced an inticing lineup that's bound to get people talking. Among the many projects currently in development for the platform are adaptations of VARISTY BLUES and HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS. If neither of those projects interest you, perhaps you'll be stoked to learn that Steven Spielberg also has a horror-oriented series that is Quibi bound. Ah, that got your attention, eh? I knew it would. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more details about Quibi's lineup, as well as any additions to the 50 STATES OF HORROR cast.
