If it wasn’t official before, it just got a lot more officialier (real word): We’ll be getting a remake, I’m sorry, a “reboot” of CHILD’S PLAY. The good news is that it comes from the original creators of the franchise, Don Mancini and David Kirschner, and that Brad Dourif will once again be reprising his role as Charles Le Ray. You may ask, why remake it then? I’m sure the producers would respond with a polite, yet definitive, “Go f*ck yourself.”
Aint it Cool News’ Quint interviewed Mancini and Kirschner, and the plan seems to be to make Chucky “scary again”, although no details are revealed other than this:
Mancini: “…it’s a reboot, we are telling the origin story again, but beyond certain broad stroke details, it’s really quite a reinvention I would say.”
The plan at the moment is to release it in 2010, with Mancini at the helm… While this is all, of course, rather unnecessary, the producers seem serious about creating a straight-forward horror chiller, and are also refreshingly candid about cashing in on the remake craze. As Mancini says: “I mean part of that is business in the sense that that is a trend that is sort of galloping over Hollywood right now, but I feel like that’s a trend we can use to our advantage, because it really does dovetail nicely with our main mission, which is to make it really scary. It’s been four years since the last one, so it just seems like the timing is really good now for us to just recreate it in a way.”
There’s quite a bit more to the interview, although a lot of it focuses on the 20th Anniversary Edition of CHILD’S PLAY that’s being released on DVD. (20th Anniversary? God I feel old.)

Now the question: Who will play Jennifer Tilly in the SEED OF CHUCKY remake?
