Chum trailer: Alice Eve shark thriller is set to reach theatres in June

Fans of shark thrillers usually don’t have to wait very long for reports that a new entry in their favorite sub-genre is on the way. Sometimes, you can even hear about multiple new shark thrillers in the same afternoon. Close on the heels of the Shark Thrash trailer comes the unveiling of the Chum trailer, which you can check out in the embed above. This one stars Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness) and is set to reach theatres on June 5th.

What is Chum about?

Directed by Jonathan Zuck (Meant to Be Broken), who wrote the script with Joe Leone, Chum has the following synopsis:

A dream destination wedding in Malta explodes into chaos when a bloodthirsty shark attacks and a sinister fisherman with a hidden agenda turns the celebration into a deadly trap. Forced between open water and a relentless human predator, the wedding party must fight for survival as secrets surface and loyalties shatter. As the newlyweds are pushed to their limits, they’re forced to confront the cracks in their relationship to determine who lives, who dies and who stays married.

Eve is joined in the cast by Eric Michael Cole (White Squall), Jim Klock (Neighborhood Watch), Elle Haymond (The Cure), Lisa Yaro (Running on Empty), Johnny Gaffney (Danny Will Die Alone), Robert Grose (Blood on the Crown), and Sarah Siadat (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists).

Eve produced the film alongside Luke Daniels, Kurt Fethke, Lucas Jarach, Ryan R. Johnson, and Eamon O’Rourke. Chadwick Struck was a co-producer.

Zuck serves as an executive producer on the film with Savoy Brummer, Jim Burnett, Jordan Dykstra, Kyle Fethke, David Garrett, Joshua Cassar Gaspar, Alon Michael Hattingh, Vince Jolivette, Maniissh Karma, James Kondelik, Alan Pao, and Angie Sanfilippo.

Chum has a set-up that’s reminiscent of Dangerous Animals, which I thought was a great psycho / shark thriller, so the similarities definitely won’t keep me from watching this one. I just hope it manages to be almost as good as Dangerous Animals.
