Citadel is a bold and expensive new project from David Weil and producers Joe and Anthony Russo. One of the most ambitious series of all time, Citadel presents two new spy factions that echo everything from the MCU’s HYDRA to James Bond’s nemesis SPECTRE. With Citadel fighting for good and Manticore for evil, this series showcases a blend of Mission: Impossible and The Long Kiss Goodnight as we follow Mason Kane (Richard Madden), a top agent of Citadel who has lost his memory and his former love, Nadia (Priyanka Chopra Jonas). With the help of spymaster Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), Kane will reenter his former life to save the world.
I got to discuss Citadel with the cast and creative team behind the series. Star Richard Madden talked about taking on this 007-esque role and how exciting it was to be a part of a potentially huge franchise. Stanley Tucci talked about the similarities between this series and the big franchise films he has been a part of. Series creator David Weil talked about the ambitious international spin-offs to this series and how they will all connect.
