As we all know, the horror genre isn’t limited to just movies and books. More and more, video games are churning out some of the creepiest and startling entries in the world of horror, titles like RESIDENT EVIL and SILENT HILL offering more goosebumps than most flicks you see (especially the flicks based on those particular games).
Years ago, Clive Barker, who’s active on all horror-fronts, threw his hat into the ring with UNDYING. Now he’s returned with what looks like a seriously scary piece of work, JERICHO.
Here’s a plot summary, courtesy of “The Official Barker Clive Barker Resource”: Barker has created a storyline based on a quest through a lost city which has reappeared in a remote desert. Within the city is an evil from the dawn of time which must be hunted down and destroyed by a Special Forces squad using both conventional and arcane weapons. Developed by Mercury Stream, the game takes players through a maze of chambers – in which warriors of different ages are imprisoned, each one earlier than the last – until they finally encounter evil incarnate…
Sounds cool enough. Even cooler is Barker’s own thoughts on the project: “Players will constantly be given new challenges, new environments, and yes, new horrors and abominations to face every step of the way… However, unlike a conventional game in which the characters are attempting to escape at the end of their ride through Hell, our protagonists have a much more difficult task. The closer they come to the end of their trek into darkness, the nearer they get to the source of that darkness…” He adds that the “darkness” in question, “…makes the devil look like Pollyanna.”
