Clive’s Dread coming

We’ve got another short story from Clive Barker’s BOOKS OF BLOOD collection getting the big-screen treatment! Just a couple of weeks after it was announced that BOOKS’ first film adaptation, MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN, would be receiving a theatrical release this summer, prepare yourselves for DREAD! Writer/director Anthony DiBlasi will be handling the transition with Seraphim Films producing.

From Volume 2 of the collection (TRAIN is from Vol. 1), DREAD tells the tale of Quaid, a student of philosophy, who is obsessed by his own nightmare of an ax-murdering clown so he concocts a series of experiments to observe firsthand how other people react to the things that most horrify them. But while Quaid slowly unpeels the psyches of his imprisoned and tortured captives like a reeking onion, his own dread waits, just beyond his control.

AH! Another Killer Clown theme! I hate clowns (but only because they’re so friggin’ creppy, which ironically usually makes for enjoyable horror)! I like the concept of this story—should make for an appropriately unsettling flick. I know that MEAT TRAIN looks fantastic. Hopefully DREAD will follow suit and pave the way for more Barker adaptations.
