It’s been a rough week for Joe Carnahan and his upcoming movie WHITE JAZZ. Just a few days after losing actor Chris Pine to JJ Abrams’ STAR TREK, Carnahan has lost another one of his actors and this time it’s the big one. George Clooney has dropped out of WHITE JAZZ due to scheduling conflicts. Clooney and his people wanted to push the filming back with MICHAEL CLAYTON, BURN AFTER READING and LEATHERHEADS all taking up lots of Clooney’s time. Carnahan wasn’t so eager to delay the film and the two decided to part. Says Clooney’s producing partner Grant Heslov, “”It just simply came down to scheduling. George continues to believe in the project and in Joe.” Carnahan spoke of the news on his blog saying, “I’ve been waiting awhile to make this one and I wasn’t
content to sit on my hands…We’re in the process of trying to plug a guy into this movie that, if it works, would be pretty f*cking amazing.” For his part, Carnahan doesn’t seem phased by it all adding, “we march on.” It wouldn’t be the first time a high-profile star bailed on Carnahan. Reese Witherspoon dropped out of BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING just weeks before filming was scheduled to begin.
