I’ll say right now that I think this is pure bullshit, but I’ll run with it for the moment because it’ll spread like wildfire over the ‘net anyway, and since I can’t beat ’em, I’ll join ’em.
A few sites, including Metro.co.UK, are saying George Clooney is apparently in talks to star in the proposed remake of THE BIRDS. Here’s why I don’t believe it: Clooney is a pretty smart guy, who seems very on-top of his career. I seriously doubt he’d be fraternizing with the likes of this absolute travesty of an idea. Plus, every single thing I’ve read about this script has said it’s an awful hack-job…
If it turns out I’m wrong, I’ll admit it and eat humble pie… Then I’ll brush my teeth with toilet water…
Tippi Hedren, the lead in the original, said it best: “Can’t we find new stories, new things to do? Must you be so insecure that you have to take a film that’s a classic and try to do it over?”
May I be the first (or the one millionth?) to say, Tippi, the sensible ones among us are asking the same question every single day… I know we’re supposed to be objective until seeing the final product, but I doubt I’m wrong in saying that this remake will be awful beyond reason.
Naomi Watts has been rumored for the lead role, and Martin Campbell (CASINO ROYALE) is, for some reason, attached to direct.
