Cobra Kai pays tribute to Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi in new Season 2 clip

For many children of the ‘80s, Pat Morita’s Mr. Miyagi was more than just another film character – he was a teacher, a friendly face, and a source for positive self-discipline. He taught fans of THE KARATE KID franchise to value non-violence above all else; a lesson that bears revisiting, especially during today’s troubled times of intolerance, misguided aggression, and ceaseless rage.

Today, YouTube Premium has released a new clip for COBRA KAI Season 2, in which a grown Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) passes on the knowledge taught to him by Miyagi all those years ago. As the scene plays out, we find Daniel making some adjustments to the Miyagi-Do dojo, before an eager to learn Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan), the son of Daniel’s nemesis, Johnny Lawrence, enters the quiet academic grounds. After pulling a relic from Daniel’s past from a nearby box, a wistful LaRusso explains that the path to becoming a true karate master lies not in hate and violence, but in discipline, hard work, and patience. The scene then pays a fine tribute to the late Pat Morita, as we witness a tender exchange between sensei and student from the original Karate Kid film series.

Heres' the synopsis for COBRA KAI Season 2:

Season 2 brings fans back into the action with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) after the shocking Season 1 cliffhanger featuring the return of John Kreese (Martin Kove). When a new rivalry between opposing dojos is born in the aftermath of Cobra Kai’s controversial win at the All Valley Championships, Daniel realizes his next countermove is to open his own karate training school called Miyagi-Do, in honor of his mentor Mr. Miyagi.

What was once a personal feud between Daniel and Johnny escalates beyond their differences to engulf their students, who as teenagers, are already challenged to figure out who they are and who they want to be. Which path will they follow – Cobra Kai or Miyagi-Do?

In addition to William Zabka and Ralph Macchio, COBRA KAI also stars Courtney Henggeler, Vanessa Rubio as Carmen, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser and Tanner Buchanan as Robby, a relucntant Cobra Kai recruit with an agenda of his own.

COBRA KAI Season 2 is scheduled to show no mercy via YouTube Premium beginning on April 24th
