Coffin Joe is Back!

UPDATE: Apparently the new title for this flick is called THE EMODIMENT OF EVIL, and not DEVIL’S REINCARNATION as we were told earlier. For more on this change, click HERE.
Horror legend and all around God when it comes to Brazil cinema, Jose Mojica Marins, hit the scene some 28 years ago with “At Midnight I’ll Take Your Sound” and “This Night I Will Possess Your Corpse” as the infamous Coffin Joe (Ze do Caixao). Today Variety is reporting that Coffin Joe is back at it again with DEVIL’S REINCARNATION (Encarnacao do demonio), which is set to start filming later this week in Sao Paulo.

Apparently Marins has been trying to get REINCARNATION off the ground since 1978, but financial backers and whatnot backing out left and right… alas, it hasn’t been able to be made until now. Some say the filmmaker is cursed, and many folk in Brazil literally hate the guy, but like many controversial filmmakers, it’s generally because people are stupid and they need a scapegoat to hate instead of dealing with ‘real’ issues.

But on with Coffin Joe! I ain’t gonna lie to you, I’m not AT ALL familiar with the series, with the director or anything of that nature, but I will say this: I’ve heard the name Coffin Joe uttered around the campfire enough times to know that this guy doesn’t f*ck around- he’s the real deal, a ‘legend’ if you will, and so I suppose it’s a good thing he’s coming back in black in 2007.
