Colin Trevorrow on Jurassic World: Dominion resuming production

Just like every other film out there, production on JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION was forced to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the cast and crew are now ready to resume work at Pinewood Studios. Making a blockbuster is no easy feat, especially as you're rarely given enough time to do everything you wanted, and director Colin Trevorrow told Empire that the extra time due to the hiatus has worked to their advantage.

For many of us, Dominion was already the biggest creative challenge of our lives, before the lockdown. The shooting schedule really worked to our advantage – the first four weeks we put to film were mostly sequences with dinosaurs in them. So that allowed us to get a head start on VFX and workshop some of the newer elements without the pressure of a looming deadline.

Although production on JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION will be getting underway, it will be doing so with plenty of additional safety measures in place. "I’m confident our guidelines will keep us safe," Trevorrow said. "The hard part will be constructing a creative environment within all the precautions. Once the cameras roll, we have to forget our world and live in the world of the movie. That may take some practice." Trevorrow, who also co-wrote the script alongside Emily Carmichael, added that he's "been really moved by the way everyone has shown support for each other. We’re all fired up to get back to work. This is what we do, and we’re all eager to get back out there and do it."

Although JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM wasn't exactly embraced by audiences, the upcoming JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION might just be able to lure them back as it will feature the return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler. Although Goldblum's Dr. Malcolm did make an appearance in FALLEN KINGDOM, it was pretty much a glorifed cameo, but Sam Neill recently stated that the JURASSIC PARK trio will have much bigger roles in DOMINION. "We’re all the way through the film, Jeff [Goldblum], and me, and Laura [Dern]" Neill said, but admitted that he "probably won’t be running quite as fast as I was 27 years ago!"

JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION is slated to hit theaters on June 11, 2021.
