Colin Trevorrow talks benefits of production delays on Jurassic World sequel

Colin Trevorrow's upcoming JURASSIC WORLD: DOMINION has made me excited about a JURASSIC PARK sequel for the first time in a long time, since…well…since THE LOST WORLD became one of young Damion's first of many disappointments. While plot details are tightly under wraps, the ending of the last film basically guarantees that at least we won't be stuck on some island again (thank God!), and furthermore – according to a recent interview with Sam Neill – we'll be getting a decent amount of the original film's trio as well!

And it seems that production is starting up again, after it had to be shuttered due to the Covid pandemic. Fortunately, director Trevorrow said that there were some surprisingly unexpected benefits to the delays, saying in an interview with Empire:

For many of us, Dominion was already the biggest creative challenge of our lives, before the lockdown…The shooting schedule really worked to our advantage – the first four weeks we put to film were mostly sequences with dinosaurs in them. So that allowed us to get a head start on VFX and workshop some of the newer elements without the pressure of a looming deadline.

However, later in the interview, Trevorrow admits it still isn't ideal, stating:

I’m confident our guidelines will keep us safe…The hard part will be constructing a creative environment within all the precautions. Once the cameras roll, we have to forget our world and live in the world of the movie. That may take some practice…I’ve been really moved by the way everyone has shown support for each other. We’re all fired up to get back to work. This is what we do, and we’re all eager to get back out there and do it.

Meanwhile, JURASSIC DOMINION is still expected to stomp into theaters June 11th, 2021…but we'll keep you updated if there are any changes.

So what do you guys think? Fans of JURASSIC PARK? If so, what do you think so far of this one? Either way, sound off below!
