Case in point is Elizabeth Kostova’s THE HISTORIAN, the huge national best-seller novel about a chick out to find out who killed her father- and winds up running into vampires, rumaging through crypts and dealing with Dracula’s homeland in Eastern Europe.
The funny thing was, I saw the cover in the store and thought it was about a goofy old woman with glasses who got off on reading old books in the library trying to figure out where half her neighborhood came from. Oh wait, that’s my grandma. So least to say I was surprised that it was about vampires.
The Hollywood Reporter announced today that David Magee, who also wrote FINDING NEVERLAND, is in talks to adapt THE HISTORIAN for Columbia Pictures! I’m thinking INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE meets NATIONAL TREASURE or some shit like that. Either way, count me in! But first I have to get me a copy of the novel to plow through… maybe for Christmas… If I’m good…
