Comedy great Leslie Nielson passes away at 84 – RIP

It is with a heavy heart that I alert you of the passing of Leslie Nielson. He died at the age of 84 in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida hospital due to complications from pneumonia. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1926, Nielson acted in live television dramas in New York for years before moving to Hollywood in the mid-50s. He got his first break on his second film, 1956’s FORBIDDEN PLANET.

It wasn’t until the 1980’s when he became deadpan funnyman we know him as today from such classics as AIRPLANE and THE NAKED GUN. Nielson has some horror credits on his resume, including CREEPSHOW and PROM NIGHT. He also starred in a few  genre spoofs, such as REPOSSESSED, SCARY MOVIE 3, and STAN HELSING.

The world just got a lot less funny. I hope no one calls you Shirley in heaven.
