And another foreign horror title gets remade in English!
According to Variety, Spanish commercials director David Alcalde has been hired to remake the popular French horror title THEM. If you’re thinking, why hire a Spanish director for an English language redo of a French film? Only Studio Canal can answer that one, my friends!
Another question might be, with THE STRANGERS 2 still looming, why even remake THEM in the first place? THE STRANGERS itself borrowed quite heavily from THEM’s simple premise, and really could on its own be considered an English language remake of the film. For f*ck’s sake, didn’t Studio Canal even see THE STRANGERS?
Anyway, here’s the set-up for THEM (2006):
Lucas and Clementine live peacefully in their isolated country house, but one night they wake up to strange noise… they’re not alone… and a group of hooded assailants begin to terrorize them throughout the night.
Yup, THE STRANGERS through and through. Still, this Alcalde fella might distinguish the film with his trademark flare. Dude has over 200 commercial credits under his belt, and even won ScreamFest 2006 with his short film HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. Hopefully all that experience lends toward something truly inspired!
