HOT TUB TIME MACHINE was a surprisingly fun movie with an incredibly stupid premise. The cast of characters featuring John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke helped elevate what would have otherwise been a forgettable movie to an entertaining ode to the 80s. HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2 is coming, minus Cusack and plus Adam Scott, and now we have a new female lead as well.
COMMUNITY star Gillian Jacobs is joining the cast of HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2, but her role remains unknown. I would assume she is playing the love interest against Adam Scott, much like Lizzy Caplan did opposite John Cusack in the original. It remains to be seen how the story will return the group of friends to the magical hot tub.
Chevy Chase will return for the sequel as well as the repairman with mysterious knowledge of the time travel properties of the titular hot tub. Chase co-stars with Jacobs on COMMUNITY so this will be a reunion of sorts.
Gillian Jacobs has compiled a nice filmography lately with roles in THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE, SEEKING A FRIEND FOR THE END OF THE WORLD, HELENA FROM THE WEDDING THE BOX, and CHOKE. She seems to play better wacky characters like her part on COMMUNITY. Based on fans of the original film alone, HOT TUB TIME MACHINE 2 is likely going to be a modest hit. At MGM these days, are there any other kinds of hits?
