You may be sitting there and asking yourself “why the shit would I care about who’s composing the music to this flick?”, and for most films, I’d probably say you were right: who cares? Except we’re talking horror, and in horror movies, the music plays a key character- take out the music, and most movies just aren’t that scary!! Think of John Carpenter flicks: the guy’s a genius at composing music, and if you took that out of HALLOWEEN, well… it just wouldn’t have been a scary movie. I mean, the music made Laurie Strode crossing the street scary- take that out, and it’s a chick crossing the street.
Have I sold the music to you yet? Ok. Reitzell’s previous credits include STRANGER THAN FICTION and MARIE ANTOINETTE… so not a lot of horror there, but you gotta start somewhere, right?
Also, ComingSoon got the heads up that James Wan’s composing fav Charlie Clouser is up to take on DEATH SENTENCE, Wan’s follow-up to DEAD SILENCE. Clouser has worked on all of the SAW films, as well as SILENCE. This guy knows his shit when it comes to the horror, and I’m stoked as hell about him taking on another Wan flick. They’re a good team!
So that’s all for composing news for the day. I’m sure you’ll all excited as hell about it, but just remember this: with the right music, movies wouldn’t be scary. Word.
