CON: Prince Caspian

PRINCE CASPIAN

There wasn’t much worth noting during WonderCon’s PRINCE CASPIAN panel, with the only person coming onto the stage to answer questions being KNB creature supervisor Howard Berger. They also showed a montage of unfinished footage from the film, but that wasn’t anything spectacular either.

FOOTAGE

Clip Montage – This 5-minute presentation was completely without dialogue and featured a lot of unfinished FX, such as actors wearing green suits and cartoony CGI. It was hard to tell what exactly was happening, as the shots changed rapidly, but there was plenty of sword fighting, arrows being shot through the sky, and alternating bits and pieces from seemingly epic war battles. I’m sure fans will be pleased once they see the final product.

PANEL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The next entry from THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, titled VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER, is already in pre-production, and the series will continue as long as the box office receipts are high enough.
  • The creatures will be more varied this time, especially in regards to age.
  • WETA is doing work on the special effects and miniatures/models.
  • PRINCE CASPIAN is “darker” and “more savage” than the previous film.

OVERALL

Though I wasn’t a fan of the previous NARNIA film, everything about PRINCE CASPIAN thus far has led me to believe the series’ fanbase will enjoy the sequel just as much as they did that one. That’s not to say WonderCon’s panel for the movie was overly impressive, however, as little to no effort seemed to put into it. If you weren’t there, you really didn’t miss much.
