As posited back in August, the high-rising Jessica Chastain has just signed a deal sure to skyrocket her stock…
According to THR, Chastain (pictured) has been cast opposite Tom Cruise in the sci-fi thriller once known as OBLIVION (aka HORIZONS). The flick, which comes from TRON: LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski, is currently untitled.
Before we specify Chastain’s starring role, let’s revisit the premise of the film:
The untitled thriller centers on a battle-damaged soldier who, assigned to a desolate planet after a court-martial, patrols the bleak landscape in an effort to destroy the last vestiges of a primitive alien race. When a mysterious traveler arrives unexpectedly, their lives become inextricably linked as they are forced to question everything they know about this world and themselves.
Cruise will play the soldier who’s stuck alone on the planet, repairing the drones that patrol and destroy a savage alien life form. He encounters a beautiful woman who crashes in a craft, and their experience together forces him to question his world view.
Chastain will play Cruise’s lover and partner, who tethers him to the world above the clouds while he’s doing repairwork. She becomes none-too-happy when she discovers he has fallen for another woman.
