I first stumbled across illustrator Matt Busch’s project CONJURE back in 2004, and thought at the time that it had an interesting premise, but a less than impressive teaser poster. Today I checked in at the Official Site for the flick and holy shite does it look awesome.
The concept behind this puppy is as follows – Finding his high profile pop-culture illustration career to be less than meaningful, Matt Busch sets out to find a more rewarding personal project. Visiting a nearby graveyard, Matt stumbles upon an old photograph of a South-American castle. Obsessed with the photo, Matt begins to bring the castle to life with a vibrant full-color painting. At the same time, he creates sinister sketches of the tortured souls who he imagines inhabit the gothic dwelling.
While Matt creates his cryptic world in his studio, his girlfriend Sarah is confronted with phantom encounters throughout the rest of the home. The more Matt conjures the spirits through his art, the more intense these ghostly encounters become. Eventually the art becomes so real, that Matt and Sarah find themselves manifested in the actual castle, lost in the never-ending jungles of South America. There they must find a way home, and confront the demonic spirits conjured from Matt’s twisted nightmares…
As I mentioned above, I’ve been a fan of the concept since I first came across it. I’m happy to report that a fantastic teaser trailer and some great poster art now support the strength of the finished product. The teaser trailer in particular is as good as any that I’ve seen recently – major studio work included.
And let’s not forget that the notably hot Sarah Wilkinson is the female lead in this puppy. As you can imagine based on the pic below, if you gotta get stabbed, she’s the one you want to do it!
