Cool Videos: 1979 Alien toy commercial

ALIEN was released in 1979 with an R-rating for “strong violence, gore and language” but that didn’t stop toymaker Kenner from trying to market some action figures. The original toy was an 18-inch tall alien with a glow-in-the-dark skull and a working “inner jaw.” As you might expect this scared the shit out of most kids and the figure was pulled off of toy shelves rather quickly and the rest of the toy line (which would’ve included action figures for both Sigourney Weaver, Ian Holm and Tom Skerritt).

But now you can see the equally creepy TV commercial for the toy, which seems to indicate that kids would want to play as the alien – “Another win for the alien!” Yeah tell that to John Hurt… Check out the commercial below!
