Could Jurassic Park 4 now be a reboot? Sam Neill seems to think so

Earlier this month we heard that Universal's upcoming sequel JURASSIC PARK 4 was in trouble, later learning that the film had been put on indefinite hold with the official statement reading…

In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal's beloved franchise. We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise's storied history.

That was disappointing news to fans of the franchise, but not completely unexpected seeing as how the studio had slated the fourth film for a June 2014 release and the window to get it shot, edited and ready for release by that date was closing quick. Now we have word that there may be more to the shake-up than we originally thought.

Sam Neill, who played Dr. Alan Grant in the original 1993 film, recently spoke with the Dominion Post about the forthcoming sequel and dropped this unexpected nugget:

“I’m told it’s a big reboot, a total re-jig.”

This is certainly strange news as Collider pointed out that producer Frank Marshall confirmed that the film was definitely a sequel and not a reboot or remake back in July of last year. Have the people in charge at Universal changed their minds, deciding that they'd prefer a reboot over a sequel? Could Neill be privy to some information that hasn't leaked out yet? There is always that possibility.

We'll keep you updated on news regarding JURASSIC PARK 4/JURASSIC PARK REMAKE/REBOOT as we hear it.
