While I’ve certainly heard the name before, I must admit I wouldn’t know Randy Couture if he slapped the piss outta me. The dude is a UFC Heavyweight – those guys who straddle other guys and punch them in the face until it resembles a plate of mashed potatoes. (I’ve helpfully provided a picture in case you don’t follow.) Guess that qualifies him for some kind of bad ass status, although his appearance in a straight-to-DVD SCORPION KING prequel might jeopardize that a tad..
Sly Stallone must like what he sees, because the director has just recruited Couture to be in his action epic (fingers crossed) THE EXPENDABLES. Couture joins Stallone, Forest Whitaker, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren in the film, about a team of mercenaries looking to overthrow a Latin American dictator. I am quite looking forward to this movie – with that line-up it will be pretty hard to F up. (Although the rumor that they’re shooting for a PG-13 rating raises an eyebrow or two…) Plus I dug Stallone’s insane RAMBO, and this sounds like more of the same – in a good way.
Shooting is slated to begin in March.
