While looking for some worthy genre news on this wonderful Saturday morning I came across an interesting little tidbit over at Variety. It seems two companies you’ve probably never heard of are teaming to create a genre division that you could probably care less about. But hey, maybe it’ll actually bring us some kick-ass flicks right?
The news today has CP Productions and Ghostrider Entertainment teaming together for a brand new genre division. The deal spans 10 features within the next three years, all with a budget ranging between $8 million and $20 million. Plans are to film most of the projects in or around Mississippi. The first two flicks to come from this brand new concoction? RITES OF SPRING and SLAUGHTER!
RITES OF SPRING, which we last told you about earlier this month, comes from director Padraig Reynolds and stars Vickie McNeill, Hannah Bryan, Andrew Breland, Katherine Randolph, Shanna Forrestall, Marco St. John, Sarah Pachelli and Skylar Burkes. The low budget monster movie is currently shooting in Canton, Mississippi with plans to release the flick March 22, 2011. A ransom scheme turns into a nightmare for a group of kidnappers who become victims of a horrifying secret that must be paid every spring.
SLAUGHTER, coming from director Victor Garcia, we actually heard about way back in 2007. It supposedly stars Dominique Swain, Erica Leerhsen, Jonathon Trent, Shawnee Smith and AnnaLynne McCord (below). Three struggling actresses finally get their big break, but all is not what it seems. They’re brought to a remote location, like [what] happens so many times in LA— And the trick is, when they turn up…there’s a little more realism going on than they thought. They realize very quickly that the director has intentions beyond special effects.
