While there isn’t a title for Craven’s said project, there is a premise that Craven’s working with… here’s how he describes it, as well as why he decided to jump back in the director’s chair:
“It is rooted in the supernatural with a 16-year old central character, but it’s more ‘Sixth Sense’ than a slasher film. It’s appalling to me that you have to go back to 1994 to find an original that I wrote and directed, so this is very important to me.”
It’s important to us too, because let’s face it… Craven’s the man! He made some flops in the (recent) past (CURSED anyone?), but like he said… he hasn’t written and directed something in a long time (WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE), and when he did, he was on top of his game.
Midnight Pictures, on the other hand, will be doing the remake of THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT, and are eyeing both SHOCKER and THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS for possible remake projects as well. Not that those two are definitive Craven, but enough with the remakes, and enough with remaking so-so movies! Though I must admit, Craven’s so-so THE HILLS HAVE EYES made an excellent remake, so go figure… maybe they will make a version of PEOPLE that I could actually give a f*ck about.
Craven’s plan is to start production on his new project next spring, and we all couldn’t be happier! It’s good to have you back, Wes! Stick around for more updates on this, and other Midnight Pictures projects in the as we hear it!
