Crazy Baghead!

Get ready for a new indie oddity known affectionately as BAGHEAD. Just got word of this independent horror/comedy and couldn’t help being intrigued. Having recently screened at Sundance, the flick is starting to bag some seriously positive buzz. Anyways, cut out some eyeholes and take a peep at the genre-skewering plot:

Four friends, all wannabe actors and all frustrated to different degrees by the film festival success of a pretentious cheese ball acquaintance, head to a house in the woods to hammer out a script for the project that will give them their big breaks. In the middle of this climate, one has an ambiguously real encounter with a man with a bag on his head. Is this “baghead” a drunken delusion? The prank work of a jealous and manipulative actor? Or a sign that a sinister/supernatural force is soon going to make sure this group puts aside their self-absorbed squabbles in favor of self-preservation?

Sounds like there’s loads of room for some “winks-at-the-industry” fun! People are calling it “mumblehorror”. I guess because “mumblecore” is an industry term meaning “an ultra-low budget production (often employing digital video cameras), focus on personal relationships between twenty-somethings, improvised scripts, and non-professional actors.” Honestly, I never heard of that word before, but I’m kind of dumb.

Anyways, BAGHEAD (another title I just love saying) is directed and written by The Duplass Brothers and stars Ross Partridge, Steve Zissis, Greta Gerwig, and Elise Muller (below).
