Creepy and mysterious trailer for horror thriller Open Grave with Sharlto Copley

A new trailer for director Gonzalo López-Gallego's OPEN GRAVE starring Sharlto Copley has dug its way online and looks like a pretty decent genre mash-up, elevated in part by Copley's presence. The horror thriller has shades of different genre flicks, like WRONG TURN and SAW, which could make for a hell of a good time. Copley, who usually plays the more outlandish characters in his films seems to be playing it straight and with an American accent, which is interesting in itself.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

A man (Sharlto Copley, DISTRICT 9, ELYSIUM) wakes up in a pit of dead bodies with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Fleeing the scene, he breaks into a nearby house and is met at gunpoint by a group of terrified strangers, all suffering from memory loss. Suspicion gives way to violence as the group starts to piece together clues about their identities, but when they uncover a threat that’s more vicious — and hungry — than each other, they are forced to figure out what brought them all together — before it’s too late.

This looks kind of cool. López-Gallego did the found footage horror flick APOLLO 18, which I've heard mixed reviews on, so I'm not sure how much clout he carries on a pic like this. Still, Copley playing it straight in a horror thriller has some appeal and the mysterious nature of the film has got me curious. It could very well be a sleeper hit.

OPEN GRAVE will be available on iTunes and VOD on December 24, 2013 and in select theaters beginning January 3, 2014.
