Sure, this is another Aisian horror remake, but not all of ’em suck (THE RING and, uh…), okay, ONE didn’t suck, which means we’re long overdue for another. And I’m hoping THE ECHO has the strength to ring true with genre fans. It’s coming to us from director Yam Laranas, who also helmed the original version called SIGAW.
We last reported on this remake a while back here, and now we finally have a look at the first eerie image (above). Not too bad if I do say so (though it does remind me a bit of THE RING). I’ve heard that SIGAW was pretty damn creepy, which means so far, THE ECHO has my attention. I just hope Eric Bernt’s new screenplay doesn’t f*ck up the translation. Check it out:
An ex-con moves into an old apartment building, where he encounters a domestic problem involving a police officer, his wife, and their daughter. When he tries to intervene, however, a mysterious curse entraps him.
THE ECHO stars Kevin Durand, Jesse Bradford, Amelia Warner, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Jayne Eastwood. The flick is currently completed and eyeing a release some time in 2008.
