Maggie Grace (TAKEN) has signed on to co-star with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in the upcoming spy thriller from director James Mangold. In the she’ll star as the sister to Diaz’s character who has been swept into a conspiracy by her blind date (Cruise) who turns out to be a super spy. It’s an impressive bit of casting for Grace who struggled to find her place in Hollywood post-“Lost.” She deserved much better than the terrible FOG remake a few years back and she’s finally getting her due after TAKEN, which made over $220 million worldwide.
The film, formerly titled WICHITA, has long been on Cruise’s potential to-do list and recently he chose it as his next project. What’s odd is that he was attached to SALT (where he was eventually replaced by Angelina Jolie) but dropped out because the “super spy” aspect was too similar to MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. But here he’s back playing another “super spy,” this time involved with a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source. Frankly I would’ve rather seen Cruise and Denzel Washington face off in the David Cronenberg directed MATARESE CIRCLE but it looks like he may be off that project.
