I kid you not. The Hollywood Reporter tell us today that David Gordon Green has just signed on to direct FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND. Yeah, WTF indeed.
FREAKS is described as a horror thriller and centers around the horrible secret of a rural Middle American town involves Trevor Owen’s attempts to protect his “monster” of a 6-year-old younger brother and Gristlewood Valley’s other “freaks” from their parents’ worst instincts. That’s awesome. So we’re set to see Gordon Green tackle that plot, but that’s not all!
Apparently FREANKS OF THE HEARTLAND is based off the 6-part graphic novel series by Steve Niles, who’s no stranger to having his work adapted into pretty sweet movies. Overture Films will be the ones bringing FREAKS to the big screen.
Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey will be tackling their first screenplay with the adaptation for FREAKS, Green (above) is set to produce alongside Dark Horse Entertainement president Mike Richardson. Niles is executive producing. Looks like we’ve got some major potential here, so we’ll definately be keeping you updated on FREAKS OF THE HEARTLAND.
