Disney’s D23 Showcase: Zootopia 3, Frozen 3, a Kingdom Hearts anime, and Percy Jackson Season 3 details revealed

Disney, D23, panel

As we nurse today’s D23 hangover with a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich and a pot of steaming Coffin Creek coffee (Ogopogo – Nanaimo Bar Flavored), it’s time to make the rounds and find out what we might have missed from last night‘s jam-packed Disney Entertainment Showcase panel. As you can see from the deluge of social media posts and feverish posting of articles online, the mouse-eared studio went above and beyond to dazzle audiences with announcements and surprises for the annual show, and we’re about to dive into some of the highlights now!

Zootopia 3 Goes to the Birds

After making $2.88 billion with the Zootopia franchise so far, it should come as no surprise that Disney is fast-tracking Zootopia 3 into production. At Disney’s event, Zootopia 2 stars Ke Huy Quan and Ginnifer Goodwin announced the next installment of the film series, which will focus on birds.

Disney shared a brief teaser for Zootopia 3, featuring Judy Hopps with hearts in her eyes and butterflies in her stomach for her crime-solving partner, Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). While replaying a message from Nick via her trusty carrot-shaped recorder, Judy’s dreams of the future are interrupted by her neighbors, asking when they can expect the European rabbit to give the recording a rest. Judy informs them that her next move is to solve the case of the two strangers strangled by the rabbit next to their apartment before bounding out the door in search of adventure. Before the teaser ends, a solitary feather floats down and lands on Judy’s windowsill, teasing the arrival of birds in the sequel.

Wedding Bells Chime for Frozen 3

The Honda Center crowd also got a look at Frozen 3! Kristen Bell confirmed at Disney’s D23 entertainment showcase on Friday night that Anna will be marrying her “mountain man” Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) in the upcoming threequel, with Elsa close at her side. Additionally, Idina Menzel teased that the third film in the money-printing franchise will take the characters far from Arendelle to face an unknown threat.

Exclusive panel footage screened at the event shows Anna and Kristoff on their wedding night, joining Elsa on a dock as they study a mysterious stone that appears to open a portal to a frigid dimension. Menzel says the strange new land is “a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created.” After stepping through the portal, the group meets a new character, whom Disney does not want to reveal just yet. She’s a woman with short, black hair and an ornate cape, but that’s all we know.

Frozen 3 comes out on November 24, 2027.

Disney Unlocks a Kingdom Hearts Anime Series

Elsewhere at the show, Disney shocked the Honda Center crowd by teasing a Kingdom Hearts anime series set to debut on Disney+. The project plans to reimagine the iconic adventure with a brand-new story, expanding on the franchise’s massive universe while celebrating the characters that have captured fans’ hearts for decades.

The news comes right as Square Enix is treating gamers to more details about Kingdom Hearts IV, confirming the next game will feature a world inspired by Pixar‘s Coco. Disney Kids & Family president Ayo Davis teased that taking a world fans have spent years exploring through games and bringing it to life on screen is “really exciting,” adding that the creative team is working directly with legendary game director Tetsuya Nomura to ensure the show is unmistakably Kingdom Hearts.

Percy Jackson to Walk Among Titans

Finally, Disney brought Percy Jackson and the Olympians to the stage to drop the latest on the hit show’s third season. Marking the first time Rick Riordan’s fan-favorite book The Titan’s Curse has been adapted for the screen, Season 3 raises the stakes as Percy faces Annabeth’s sudden disappearance and the looming dread of the Oracle of Delphi’s Great Prophecy, which dictates that one demigod child of the “Big Three” will either save Olympus or bring it crashing down.

The official teaser trailer showcases the higher stakes, epic new trials, and darker adventures awaiting the crew this season. Beyond giving us a vivid first look at new characters and mounting Titan tension, the footage captures Percy’s relentless quest to find Annabeth, setting up a season charged with heavy consequences when it premieres on Disney+ on November 20, 2026.
