Update: After a lot of rumours, HBO has now given Damon Lindelof's Watchmen TV series the greenlight, ordering a pilot as well as commisioning additional backup scripts. Here we go!

Close to two years ago it was rumoured that there had been a conversation about adapting Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' "Watchmen" as an HBO television series; then, earlier this year, it was said that Damon Lindelof (Lost) was in talks with HBO to develop the series. However, Lindelof later commented on his involvement while speaking with TVLine, saying that he hadn't yet had any meetings with HBO about Watchmen, but that he was in the process of weighing the balance of "should it exist" before he decided to take it on. "I hold the source material in such high regard, it would literally be the worst feeling in the world to screw it up," Lindelof said. "So I take it very seriously, there's a lot of responsibility. All I can say is I’m thinking about Watchmen a lot right now. Nothing official."

Although there's still not anything "official," it seems that Damon Lindelof has decided to move ahead with Watchmen as he posted the following photo on his Instagram.

Day One.

Accompanied by the caption "Day One," we can see the lower half of a statue depicting Hollis Mason, the original Nite Owl, who received the statue as an acknowledgment and reward for his service as a costumed adventurer upon his retirement. That very same statue would later be used in his murder by Derf, leader of the Knot Tops. A sprawling HBO series would certainly be an excellent way to fully realize the classic graphic novel, but fans may not immediately take to Damon Lindelof as the man to bring it to them. Personally, after three amazing seasons of The Leftovers, I'm more than willing to give Lindelof a chance with Watchmen. What do you folks think?
