Dan Stevens to join Harrison Ford in Call of the Wild

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Just last week it was reported that Harrison Ford was set to star in CALL OF THE WILD, an adaptation of Jack London's classic novel of the same name, and now Variety is back to say that Dan Stevens (Legion) will be joining him.

Harrison Ford will be playing John Thornton, a prospector searching for gold in the unforgiving Yukon. As for Dan Stevens, Variety isn't clear which role he'll play, but Collider's Jeff Sneider took to Twitter to say that he's heard that Stevens will be playing Hal, the villain. Chris Sanders (THE CROODS) will be directing from a script by Michael Green (LOGAN), and production is expected to kick off this September in California, both on location and on sound stages as some cutting edge digital technology will be needed in order to create the dog-sled racing sequences.

The synopsis of "The Call of the Wild" via Amazon:

The story is set in the Yukon during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush—a period when strong sled dogs were in high demand. The novel's central character is a dog named Buck, a domesticated dog living at a ranch in the Santa Clara valley of California as the story opens. Stolen from his home and sold into the brutal existence of an Alaskan sled dog, he reverts to atavistic traits. Buck is forced to adjust to, and survive, cruel treatments and fight to dominate other dogs in a harsh climate. Eventually he sheds the veneer of civilization, relying on primordial instincts and lessons he learns, to emerge as a leader in the wild.

Dan Stevens will next be seen in APOSTLE, a period action thriller from Gareth Evans (THE RAID) which finds Stevens starring as a man who travels to a remote island and attempts to rescue his sister after she’s kidnapped by a religious cult. The group demands a ransom for the sister’s return, undermining the man’s resolve to rescue her. APOSTLE is set to debut on Netflix on September 28, 2018.
