Tom Hardy's event series Taboo has found a director in the form of Kristoffer Nyholm. The Danish director will helm the first four episodes of the eight-part series, however it hasn't been announced yet who will be behind the camera for the final episodes. Nyholm's directing credits include episodes of the original Scandinavian version of The Killing, and the TV miniseries The Enfield Haunting and Death of a Pilgrim. In a statement, Nyholm called Taboo "a wonderful character-driven tale," and said it "is very much the kind of dark, multifaceted world of drama and intrigue that I’m drawn to."

Tom Hardy came up with the story for the series with his father Chips Hardy, and it was written and created by Tom Hardy's LOCKE director Steven Knight. Ridley Scott is producing through his Scott Free London Banner with Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker for BBC One and FX.

The project centers on James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), a rogue adventurer who returns from Africa with 14 ill-gotten diamonds to seek vengeance after the death of his father. Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself playing a very dangerous game.

Taboo is set to start filming this November in the U.K., and is expected to air sometime in 2016. Tom Hardy can be seen as the Kray twins in Brian Helgeland's very awesome looking LEGEND, which is due in U.S. theaters on October 2, 2015.
