Danny Boyle set to bring Frankenstein to the U.K. stage!

Bah! Bloody Londoners are set to have a treat next winter. It’s just been announced via Variety that Danny Boyle is set to take Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN to the stage for the National Theater. No cast or other details have been laid out.

FRANKENSTEIN is likely to be filmed for NT Live, the theater’s international HD screening initiative, which means hopefully us Yanks and everyone else around the globe will get to check out what Boyle has in store for the good doctor and his peculiar creation.

Unbeknownst to me, Boyle was actually an accomplished stage director before he busted into cinema with 1995’s SHALLOW GRAVE. Of course, he followed that up with TRAINSPOTTING (a genuine classic), tripped up a little with A LIFE LESS ORDINARY and THE BEACH, but regained his groove – and then some – with 28 DAYS LATER. He won Best Director and Best Picture at last year’s Academy Awards for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, and is set to take on the harrowing true-life tale 127 HOURS, starring James Franco.
