Danny Boyle takes Frankenstein to the stage

Filmmaker Danny Boyle has been linked to a dozen possible projects since winning the Oscar for SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE, but it turns out he really wants to reanimate the Gothic horrors of Mary Shelley’s classic tale FRANKENSTEIN.

Unfortunately, you won’t see it unless you’re willing to visit London’s Olivier Theatre.

Next winter, Boyle is planning to deliver a “huge scale, theatrically and visually ambitious event” to the stage. No cast has been considered yet, but Boyle won’t be modernizing the mad scientist and his morbid creation — the story will be set in the early 19th century.

Boyle is currently making James Franco cut off his arm for the based-in-fact mountain thriller 127 HOURS.
