Dark Dorian Gray

Now I know that Oscar Wilde-adapted fare isn’t usually applicable to the likes of AITH, however this is one dark, twisted tale that in my opinion does indeed qualify. That tale is THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, which I had to read in high school and actually enjoyed because of it’s horror-esque undertones. And now we’re getting a brand new version of not-so-old DORIAN for the big screen!

Ben Barnes (NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN) has already been cast as Mr. Gray and it was just announced that English gentleman Colin Firth (right) has signed on to play Lord Henry Wotton, the aristocrat who corrupts Gray with his worldview. In case you’re not quite familiar with the storyline, have a look:

Dorian Gray is a young man who becomes the subject of a painting. As the man descends into a hedonistic lifestyle, the portrait begins to age and morph, but he doesn’t.

It’s actually a lot creepier than it sounds. Plus, I think it’ll be nice seeing the usually chivalrous Firth play an evil corrupter. He’s definitely got the acting chops for it.

DORIAN is being directed by Oliver Parker from an adapted script by Toby Finlay. The flick’s producer, Barnaby Thompson says that “Parker plans to make a visceral, dark horror story with the themes of stardom as relevant as ever.” Shooting just started this week.
