It must be Jay Woelfel SEASON. Apparently, the writer/director just filmed two genre movies back to back. The first one was CLOSED FOR THE SEASON, which I last wrote about here. The second is called SEASON OF DARKNESS, which I will discuss with you now. (Notice the seasonal similarity between the two?)
DARKNESS already has three things going for it. First, the plot sounds like one wild ride of a mind-f*ck. Second, the trailer (which you can see here) is just plain f*cking f*cked up in a very cool way and features the gentleman pictured up top. And third, it’s got the lovely Ms. Tiffany Shepis (below) in a starring role. As far as I’m concerned, this flick can’t miss. Take a look at the plot:
DARKNESS focuses on Dwight Stroud, a mental patient who escapes from the asylum to find true freedom and horrifying insanity in the outside world. He is mistaken for a motivational speaker named Finch, who leads a comfortable life with money and women at his command. Dwight doesn’t want to question the craziness of his situation, but as strange faceless figures begin to hunt him down, he must deal with an escalating spiral of danger and hallucinatory aspects of the supernatural. He must also face the reasons for his own madness and try to save Finch’s wife, Ellen, whom Dwight has fallen in love with.
Pretty whacked out, huh? Believe me, if you watch the trailer, you’ll see that synopsis nicely fleshed out. In addition to Shepis, the rest of the cast includes Nick Baldasare, Tim Thomerson, and Richard Hatch. I believe a release date will be on its way in the not-too-distant future.
