Darren Bousman pitches new cerebral thriller, steps outside the horror genre

Being pigeonholed is a bitch!

If you don’t believe me, just ask Darren Lynn Bousman, who has just sold a pitch that would mark a decided departure from the horror genre. As he tells Variety, the spec is a chance to stretch beyond the genre and avoid being typecast from here on out.

So what’s Bousman’s new pitch all about? Well, it’s currently untitled, but is said to be about flash mobs, cut from the same cloth as THE PARALLAX VIEW and THE FIRM. Darren plans to write, produce and direct the film himself.

Of course, with MOTHER’S DAY yet to see the light of day, and the high concept 11-11-11 nearing its release date, Bousman has a few things to see through before he can sit down an iron out a script for his new pitch.

Strange Weather Films – headed by Andrew Adamson and Aaron Warner – will produce the film along with exec Jeff Fierson. About the latter, Bousman said:

“Partnering up on a movie, you need a certain connection — and he immediately got it.”

Keep posted for more updates on this development as they come.
