Darren Lynn Bousman set to direct horror-thriller 11 11 11

One filmmaker we’ve been following here at AITH from the very beginning has been SAW veteran Darren Lynn Bousman. The director broke onto the scene with his work in the SAW franchise but has since branched out to films like REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA and MOTHER’S DAY. Well folks it seems Bousman has chosen which project he’ll be working on next: 11 11 11. Intrigued? You bet you are!

News coming at us via The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog has Bousman signing on with producers Wayne Rice and Richard Heller to bring us a feature about the phenomenon that is 11:11. Before I get to the details on this little diddy let me school you all on where this idea came from. You see, Rice noticed that November 11, 2011 (11-11-11) fell on a Friday next year and the producer immediately saw the potential of the release date. All he had to do now was find a filmmaker that could throw together a badass story to go with the release date. Insert Darren Lynn Bousman.

Thankfully the filmmaker’s version of 11-11-11 is a bit on the dark side and is being described as a horror/thriller. Want the details? Of course you do! Check it:

The 11:11 movement is centered on the emergence of that number in people’s lives that alerts them to angels or spirit guardians trying to communicate with them. Conspiracy theorists also point to the number 11’s involvement in historical events. 11 11 11 will take on the idea of 11 gates of Heaven and how on 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month, the 11th gate will open up and something from another world will enter the earthly realm for 49 minutes.

Nice! I don’t know about the rest of you guys but my interest is peaked. Producer Wayne Rice had the following to say:

“He [Bousman] and I sat down and over some pasta, (and) the movie materialized. A lot of this has been New Age-y or biblical, with talk of angels. Leave it to Darren to see the dark side of that date. …. This is a marketer’s dream.”

Bousman (above) adds: “With ‘Saw’ and ‘Repo,’ my career has been about finding new ways to freak people out; that’s what I want to do with this. We want to take this phenomenon and give it horrific purpose.”

Well it’s good to see the man is excited about the project! Bousman and company are hoping to get 11 11 11 into production this fall with a release date of November 11, 2011… obviously. We’ll be on the watch for more news regarding this project so be sure to keep it here for that as it comes our way!
