Dave Franco discusses auditioning for Han Solo

As you can imagine, every talented young male in Hollywood is being tested to play the young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller's spin-off STAR WARS flick. The latest rumor suggests Alden Ehrenreich may be the frontrunner, but Dave Franco was also one of the many who were given a shot. MTV recently had the chance to speak with Franco about the situation and it looks as though he's in the dark as much as the rest of us. While Franco is not alone in voicing his opinion on the audition (Miles Teller also spoke out), you can read what the former had to say below!

Dave Franco regarding his Han Solo audition:

Everyone’s coming up and being like, ‘Dude, what’s going on?’ And I’m like, ‘I don’t know. You know as much as me.’ I don’t want to underplay it, like, I’m very flattered to have been or to be whatever, wherever they are in the conversation, but, like, it is what it is.

If he tried to follow in Harrison Ford's mannerisms:

I’m not good with impressions. I think that’s the reason it’s so hard to cast this role, too. It’s like, do they want to like perfectly embody who Harrison Ford is, or do they want to go a completely different route? Do they want someone to look really similar him? So, I don’t know, I think they’re struggling with that, maybe.

Franco provides a good argument on whether or not Disney should seek out someone who acts like Ford versus someone who brings something new to the character. I think most of us would prefer the latter, and that the directors hire someone who is charismatic, a great actor, and brings their own version of Han Solo to life. There's only one Harrison Ford, so there's no point in trying to recreate that. Here's hoping Disney knows!

The UNTITLED HAN SOLO FILM is scheduled to hit theaters on May 15, 2018.
