Coming off the massive success of GONE GIRL this year, director David Fincher is showing no signs of slowing down. He is working on an adaptation of British series Utopia, which is being written by Gillian Flynn (the author of Gone Girl). Not only that, but back in September we told you that Fincher and writer James Ellroy (L.A. CONFIDENTIAL) were collaborating on a Los Angeles-set 1950s crime noir series for HBO. The network has now closed deals for the series!
Deadline adds that the show will officially be called Shakedown. Inspired by the life of legendary 1950s Hollywood vice cop-turned-private eye Fred Otash, the series is set in the tabloid world and the underbelly of Los Angeles and centers on the real-life private detective. It’s an original project by Ellroy and not an adaptation of his 2012 novella of the same name.
This Ellroy and Fincher collaboration gets more exciting each time I hear about it; considering the talent involved behind the scenes including having HBO in your corner, I would say it’s safe to be optimistic about this project.
