Well, consider this actor-director match-up and see if it doesn’t get you excited: a story is circulating that David Fincher wants Christian Bale to star in the Aaron Sorkin scripted biopic of Steve Jobs and will not consider any other actor.
Based on Jobs’ official biography, the movie has the support of Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, something last year’s JOBS starring Ashton Kutcher and Josh Gad did not. Fincher has been linked to the project for a while thanks to his relationship with Sorkin from THE SOCIAL NETWORK.
At a time when America is seeking ways to sustain its innovative edge, and when societies around the world are trying to build digital-age economies, Jobs stands as the ultimate icon of inventiveness and applied imagination. He knew that the best way to create value in the twenty-first century was to connect creativity with technology. He built a company where leaps of the imagination were combined with remarkable feats of engineering. Although Jobs cooperated with this book, he asked for no control over what was written nor even the right to read it before it was published. He put nothing off-limits. He encouraged the people he knew to speak honestly. And Jobs speaks candidly, sometimes brutally so, about the people he worked with and competed against. His friends, foes, and colleagues provide an unvarnished view of the passions, perfectionism, obsessions, artistry, devilry, and compulsion for control that shaped his approach to business and the innovative products that resulted.
According to The Wrap, Fincher approached Sony head Amy Pascal about casting Bale as conditional for him making the movie. Pascal and Fincher have a history going back to disagreements during the making of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, but she respects him as a filmmaker. Fincher is currently wrapping GONE GIRL while Bale is working on Ridley Scott‘s EXODUS. Bale plans a break from movies for a short time after EXODUS, so it is unlikely that the movie will be made until next year, but that could mean that Sony is open enough to wait for this powerhouse director-actor combo to make the movie as big as possible.
