David Fincher is a busy dude, always is. It seems like he’s constantly juggling three or four projects are once, and right now is no different. The SE7EN director is in post-production on THE SOCIAL NETWORK (the Facebook movie), is developing HEAVY METAL (which I told you a bit about last week) and has just signed on to direct PAWN SACRIFICE, a biopic about chess wiz Bobby Fischer. That ain’t all though: Variety and Vulture are both reporting that Fincher is flirting with going down a dark path again with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.
The title may be familiar because it’s a mammothly successful novel (by the late author Stieg Larsson); it’s already been adapted for the big-screen in Sweden, and that version will be released here in the states next month. But we need an American remake, dammit, because that’s what we do, so Fincher might be the dude helming the ship. Word is that Carey Mulligan (pictured below; AN EDUCATION, WALL STREET 2) is being looked at to star, but that’s not a sure thing until it’s a sure thing.
Here’s the Publishers Weekly synopsis: This first of a trilogy introduces a provocatively odd couple: disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist, freshly sentenced to jail for libeling a shady businessman, and the multipierced and tattooed Lisbeth Salander, a feral but vulnerable superhacker. Hired by octogenarian industrialist Henrik Vanger, who wants to find out what happened to his beloved great-niece before he dies, the duo gradually uncover a festering morass of familial corruption—at the same time, Larsson skillfully bares some of the similar horrors that have left Salander such a marked woman.
