David S. Goyer, despite rockin’ a rather checkered directorial resume, is quite a hot writer in Hollywood these days. Perhaps most known for penning scripts to all three BLADE films, Goyer has raised his profile the last few years, largely for his contribution to Chris Nolan’s Batman reformation (scripted BATMAN BEGINS, gets story credit for THE DARK KNIGHT). Now that the iron’s hot (or cold, depending on whether or not you saw THE UNBORN), Goyer is in line to adapt his own sci-fi debut novel for Warner Bros. called HEAVEN’S SHADOW. Scope it…
Word comes from Deadline, who claims Goyer is attached to adapt at least the first novel in a purported trilogy he will write and produce under his Phantom Four shingle (the second and third novel are to be called HEAVEN’S WAR and HEAVEN’S FALL). Apparently the deal came in at an undisclosed 7-figure agreement.
Here’s a rundown of the first story’s plotline:
The trilogy begins when an object is discovered heading for earth. Initial panic gives way to a competition between international governments to be first to intercept what they believe is a breakaway meteor. What the astronauts discover leads to an encounter with alien forces that are a threat to humanity.
About the project, Goyer told Deadline:
“It’s a perfect project for Warner Bros and I’ve obviously enjoyed a long and fruitful working relationship with the studio.”
HEAVEN’S SHADOW doesn’t hit shelves until July of next year, so don’t expect production to move on this sucker anytime really soon.
