To go along with the new TV spot we showed you yesterday, the DAYBREAKERS train continues to move forward as it gets closer and closer to its release date. Case in point, the MPAA has officially given the film a rating, and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
Unlike the last few record-setting vampire movies, DAYBREAKERS scored a plump and juicy R rating for strong bloody violence, language and brief nudity. Or, in other words, for all the basic reasons there’s a rating system in the first place, DAYBREAKERS has it all. Violence, language, nudity. Awesome!
Not that the R rating is much of a surprise for DAYBREAKERS, as the trailers (and even the TV spots) have the look of some seriously hardcore R rated vampire action. But you never know. Money talks and bullshit walks, and after the success of NEW MOON Lionsgate could have easily chopped it down to a PG-13. I’m really glad they didn’t!
Starring Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Neill, DAYBREAKERS goes a bit like this: In the year 2019, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the fractured dominant race plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save humankind.
Look for DAYBREAKERS in all of it’s R rated glory in theaters everywhere January 8, 2010.
